Chapter 13
Having
Your Own Little Slice of Paradise in a Planned, Environmentally Friendly, Community
With Global Warming, prices for gasoline going up and up and
up, pollution in our water, poisons in our food, and the dangers of modern life
in cities around the world, more and more people are becoming interested in getting out of the rat race and are
also seeing that it might be a wise decision to plan ahead for a future when
society’s infrastructure around the world breaks down.
Many people yearn for a safe place tucked away in nature,
with trees, flowers and wildlife teaming around them. Maybe they remember a childhood on the farm,
when they could play in the fields, forests, and streams, not seeing another
person for hours as they played in nature.
But the reality of big city life, with its concrete jungle,
urban noise, gangs, squalor, and violence is no longer acceptable to many, and
so they dream of escape.
Costa Rica
offers the perfect pastoral settings, with gurgling, pristine clean brooks,
spectacular waterfalls, rainforests teaming with
exotic birds, monkeys, sloths, and other
wildlife. It is a
dream come true for the many who have discovered its beauty and charm.
We believe the time is right to build a peaceful, tranquil
refuge from the jangle of the urban jungle.
So, we are designing an “intentional community” of sane, responsible,
caring people who understand the need to get out of that jungle and enter the
jungle of nature instead.
We are not talking about some “hippy commune” or “religious
cult” environment. We also don’t plan
for you to have to leave the modern conveniences behind. Our plans are for a community built in
harmony with nature, using innovative, environmentally friendly architecture
that is modern and comfortable, while at the same time being gentle to the
environment around it. It will still be
stylish and appealing, though.
The community will produce its own organic meat, vegetables,
and fruit. Waste will be recycled in a biodigester, that will provide both organic fertilizer for the next crop, plus produce methane for use
by the community for functions such as cooking and refrigeration. This will be piped into the individual homes.
Depending on the location we decide to select, we will
produce our own electricity with either hydro electric, wind, solar, or a
mixture of these and other plentiful and abundant energy sources here in Costa
Rica that nature provides for our use. And, in some locations, geothermal will also
be a possibility, as this virtually untapped resource is abundant here. In fact, one engineer has told me that “Costa
Rica is the Saudi
Arabia of geothermal energy.” We will, consequently explore this exciting
and abundant source in whatever location we end up choosing for our first
community.
Depending on the number of people interested in being
pioneers in our first community
[yes, we plan to have others], we will find a suitable location that is both the
right size for the people to live in, but also for the supporting farm,
tourist/guest lodge, community center, room for other needed infrastructure,
and of course a large area for the reconstruction of the natural forest
environment. We expect to dedicate about
2/3 of the property to the new forest, or preservation of an existing forest.
We are asking those who can to relocate to Costa
Rica early, so that we can form a core group
for community planning and development. We
are interested in people who want to participate as homeowners, or in other
capacities, such as employees, tenants, etc.
We need people from all walks of life to make this a success in
paradise.
To register your
interest, and to be added to our special community list, please register with
our autoresponder service using the form below. You will then get bulletins as they are
released. We will be starting a
discussion list soon as well, and you will be invited to join when the time is
right.
We look forward to seeing you here in Costa
Rica!
